Dear friends,
We're excited to announce the opening of the 2024 Certificate in Biblical Studies (CBS) program. The launch was marked by a beautiful liturgy themed around the Office of Readings, invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The opening Mass was presided over by Fr. Ronnie Crisostomo, SVD, the rector of the Shrine of the Divine Word and a liturgy professor. In his homily, Fr. Crisostomo drew parallels between the Office of Readings and Lectio Divina, emphasizing that our study of the Bible should always be intertwined with prayer and liturgy, creating a deep, spiritual connection to the sacred scriptures.
Fr. Randy Flores, SVD, a scripture professor, and director of the Diocese of Cubao Biblical Apostolate, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of Fr. Aris Martin, SVD, the director of CBS, who was unable to attend due to health reasons. The orientation for new students was conducted by Michelle Manigque, the program manager.
This year, the program has attracted around 40 first-year students, with a similar number of second-year students returning. Notably, more than half of the students are participating online, showcasing the program's broad and flexible reach.
